Addicted to Sobriety

Welcome to Addicted to Sobriety. Our website is about drug and alcohol dependency. It is written by a family that has a substance abuser as one of its most beloved members. This website is intended to be informative, and it is also meant to be a place where you can find comfort, hope, and help for yourself or a loved one who has a problem with alcohol or drugs.

Within the pages of our website, you will find the brave sharing of a painful journey to sobriety by a recovering drug addict and alcoholic.

In the About Me section, you can find out more about this person. She openly discusses her life, her dependency, and her painful, courageous journey down the path of recovery.

You will also read the thoughts and stories of her family members. The impact of substance abuse is far-reaching. For almost every addict, there is a brother or sister, a father or mother, a spouse or child, a grandparent or aunt ...that is experiencing intense suffering also.

By telling our story, we are trying to share the difficulties, the pain, and also the joys we have experienced. By doing so, we hope that we may help other family members and friends of those with alcohol/drug problems.

Being dependent on any substance is a difficult thing to deal with, but talking and writing about it and sharing with others helps ease the troubles and the pain. It is also nice to be able to share accomplishments with others who may need inspiration.

Aside from sharing our own experiences, we also have several places on the website where you, the reader, are strongly encouraged to write in and share your experiences with us and your fellow readers. Anyone can write their story: those in recovery, those hoping to be in recovery, family members and friends ...anyone!

We also have areas where you can submit questions. Feel free to ask anything related to problems with alcohol and drugs. If it is a question we don’t know the answer to, we will be more than happy to research anything you want to know! We will post your comments and questions (you can write in anonymously if you wish) so that others are helped as well by your participation. We take your privacy very seriously. (Please see our privacy policy.)

We are NOT licensed psychologists or substance abuse experts. Our answers come from the experience of a recovering addict and her family, various psychology and addiction courses, a medical degree by one of our family members, time spent as an intern at a rehab center, and lots of research.

Some of the topics we cover on this website include:

• Recovery/12 step meetings (AA meetings/NA meetings)
• Al-Anon (12 step program for family members of alcoholics) and               Nar-Anon (12 step program for family members of addicts)

That does not begin to cover everything that we talk about, but it gives you an idea! We continually update and add to the website as we continue our family's recovery, which we know lasts a lifetime. We would also love for you to join our Facebook Page and Follow Us on Twitter!

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit our website, and we hope that you will keep coming back!
