40 years on methadone

I'm 58 and for 40 year I was on methadone. I also smoked weed and smoked crack! I don't know where I got the strength from, but i went into detox and came out clean! I never touched smack or crack again !! IT CAN BE DONE .. DONT GIVE IN ..I wish you all a Happy Christmas and a drug free New Year x

Thanks for writing in.
It's always nice to hear from people who are clean and happy and doing well!

It can be really hard to try to get clean, even when you know that it's the right thing to do. I don't think i ever would have had the strength to check myself into a detox or rehab facility. I ended up in a treatment center basically because my family didn't give me any other choice.

Ultimately it was the greatest thing I have ever done, but I don't think I could have made that decision on my own. That's really wonderful that you made that decision for yourself.

The holidays can be hard, but after being clean for some time I know that drinking or using anything isn't worth it. It sounds like you have figure that out as well!

Thanks again for writing to us. Happy Holidays!

Me again NEW
by: Anonymous

I love reading the comments after I posted this !The guy who said no doc would take me off quick after 40 yr ! I reduced daily intake so much I had 4 500ml spare after mths of just 15 mg daily then hitting the stables all day with my daughter after her mum died saving 60 ml daily ! I bought her a pony & it saved both of us !! Crazy thing is when I booked into detox they wanted to raise my dose then slow reduce again ! They wanted control but I said no way .. withdrawal was amazingly easy physically but my security blanket had gone so I drank !!
Now I smoke weed & maybe a bottle o wine at night !! Depression is a problem but I keep telling myself how free I am now !!
Thanks everyone who took time to read this .. btw my name is Ron

I was on 50-60 mg. for 45 yrs. straight. I am now down to 12 mg. I did this myself and don't want or need any doctors or rip of detox centers for help. Mother nature gave us the ability to develop resolve and I am a stubborn soul.I will die before I ever allow myself to become physically addicted to opiates again. However, I should mention I was taking the drug for pain by prescription. Anyway, it's been hell getting to 12mg. and I know I haven't reached the really bad part yet. We'll see how much resolve I really have.

The dose I was on was 80 ml daily but I slowly reduced it to 30 and actually poured the rest away .. when I booked into detox they tried to make me take my prescribed dose of 80 .. I said no way explaining what I'd done ..
Anyone struggling please feel free to ask questions ..

must of been on a low dose NEW
by: Anonymous

These is no way any place took you to detox off of MMT after 40 continuous years, (no interruption?) The ONLY way anyplace will accept you is if you have practically detoxed your self. 30 milligrams or less is what they will work with. Not that 30 is easy to taper...no dose is, but you had to be very low, so say what the dose was. Today you will not find anyone to help you at all if you've been being dosed at highers limits.

I've taken the same dose of methadone for over 10 years for chronic back pain.it is the only treatment that has worked and trust me I've tried everything under the sky. Doctors are now afraid to prescribe it fear of litigation and people who have overdosed. So now I will experience withdrawal and chronic pain in addition to other medical illnesses. Ironic when people are concerned about those overdosing on methadone, I will be the one to die because of the lack of it. I am NOT going to live my life in chronic pain when already my quality of life is low due to other medical conditions. Now after an injury that triggered the back pain and 15 years of treatment,,multiple things at physical therapy, mr. eyes kama chiropractors acupuncture and mag medic stimulation traction and everything else. My fight is over. Doctors won't listen, come up with all excuses, and now tell me that I need psychological treatment when I been going to psychologist for 30 years prior to any back pain because of issues with

detoxing
by: ismelltherain

I will be following this blog. I have searched the net over, and yours is the first story that I have come across that says "I quit methadone". I am detoxing at a clinic now, but without their help. I find it absolutely amazing that a doctor that I've never met, can write prescriptions for high powered narcotics for me. I also find it amazing that in the last year, as I have gone from 160mgs/day down to 25mgs/day, not once have these people suggested that I see the "doctor w/out a face" for advice on things I should be doing to help my detox. All the advice that I have found, I have had to research and implement on my own. I changed my diet, am exercising regularly and taking a multi-vitamin each day. It's all okay though because I walked into that place on my own and in roughly 2 more months, I will be walking back out on my own. I am also keeping a journal of daily detox symptoms, and my thoughts in my blog - ismelltherain.me - that I will be emailing to every newspaper and news station once I am done. I plan on doing my part to educate what these people are doing in America. It's very sad. Thanks for letting me rant. And I am so glad I found your story because there aren't many like it.

How methadone saved me
by: Anonymous

My name is Tami, im a 42 year old female. I sarted using heroin in 1992 when my son died. I became addicted very quickly. I was in so many in-patient drug rehabs i cant count them all. NONE of them worked.I had a "friend" of mine tell me about Methadone and how she got clean on the "program".I called every day for months til i finally got my spot!I stated 3/1/11. my sobriety date is 3/21/11.I have never stayed clean this long and i have methadone to thank for that. It saved my life, i got Baptized Christmas eve,I have GOD in my life..Life is worth living again for me.

Your story
by: Linda Ann Grier-Hughes

There are many who would say that methadone saved their lives. Because methadone is only for opiate abuse , it doesn't work for other drugs. If the person taking methadone is not motivated towards the process of recovery, they will still use other drugs. This is your story, others could say that methadone worked for them.
