I have all the symptoms of a dopamine deficiency from what I've read online. I snorted 45 to 60 milligrams of roxycodones every day for a year until two months ago and went to rehab and detox and now I'm clean. However, I am dying for a pill to make me feel less axious and to make me feel "normal" again because I am so anxious and depressed.
One of the articles I read stated that many people used opiates to "feel normal" and not to get high because they had a dopamine deficiency in their brains that is what I now think I have. It would explain a lot. I've learned that anti-depressants work on people with serontonin problems and this is why anti-depressants have never worked for me.
The only one that ever did was Wellbutrin and Wellbutrin is the only drug I see on Wikepedia that acts as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor (DRI, DARI), which is a type of drug that acts as a reuptake inhibitor for the neurotransmitter dopamine by blocking the action of the dopamine transporter (DAT). This in turn leads to increased extracellular concentrations of dopamine and therefore an increase in dopaminergic neurotransmission.
What further convinces me I have a dopamine deficiency, is that WELLBUTRIN is the ONLY anti-depressant that has ever worked for me. Unfortunately, I had to go off of it because I had a seizure.
Does anyone know if the following ingredients are dangerous? Does anyone know if they work to control the cravings for the pills and to calm the anxiety and increase the mood? Would I have to stop taking my Effexor before I could start takng them?: dl-Phenylalanine 2000mg
Vitamin B-6 (Pyridoxine HCI) 75mg
Chromium (Picolinate) 1000mcg
Vitamin C 1000mg

Anyone's help would be appreciated because I'm goint to meetings and working the steps but my addictive voice wants to kill that dopamine deficiency feeling and I don't want to relapse, I just want to feel that normal feeling again and for my IBS to go away, but without the pills. I'm willing to try anything if it worked legally and naturally I'd do it in a heartbeat. Thanks for listening :)
Thanks for writing in with your question!
First of all, congratulations on getting clean - you should be really proud of yourself. That's great that you are going to meetings and are working the steps - it sounds like you are doing everything you can to stay clean and to improve your life.
It can be really hard to start feeling 'normal' again once you get clean, especially because maybe you never felt normal in the first place, like you said, and that's part of the reason you started using drugs in the first place. Just know that you aren't alone - it's really hard for most people, but it does get better.
That being said, I really can't speak to whether or not the combinations are safe or what you should be taking. You should definitely go see a doctor/psychiatrist and get the opinion of a professional. Wikipedia can be great, but it definitely shouldn't replace seeing a doctor of some kind.
Medications can have dangerous interactions with each other, so it's important that you speak to a professional. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help regarding the medication.
Good luck! Keep us posted :)
