Effects of Ecstasy

What is Ecstasy and What Are The Effects of Ecstasy?

There are many side effects of ecstasy because it acts as a stimulant and a psychedelic/hallucinogen. Ecstasy, also known as MDMA, is a synthetic drug and is usually manufactured in labs. Ecstasy tablets often have other drugs mixed in, such as cocaine, methamphetamine, ketamine, DXM, and caffeine.

Common Side Effects of Ecstasy

A user generally feels the effects within 30-60 minutes, and they last for 4-6 hours. Someone who takes ecstasy may experience the following symptoms:

  • Mild hallucinations
  • Distortion of colors and objects
  • Very heightened sensory perception
  • Euphoria
  • Decreased anxiety,
  • Feelings of empathy

Some of the adverse side effects of ecstasy include

  • severe anxiety
  • drowsiness
  • dizziness
  • nausea/ throwing up
  • dehydration
  • depression
  • impaired memory
  • a decrease in appetite.

Keep in mind that everyone has a different reaction to all substances.

Most people who take ecstasy report feeling incredibly social and a desire to touch or be touched due to the increased intensity of their perceptions. The effects of ecstasy generally last somewhere between 4 and 7 hours, though most users report feeling ‘off’ even once the ecstasy leaves their system and they don’t feel the effects anymore. It is common for people to have stiff muscles afterward and to have difficulty sleeping. Some of these side effects can linger for days after taking ecstasy.

effects of ecstasy

One of the most common side effects of ecstasy is dehydration. Ecstasy’s stimulant properties cause the nervous system to speed up, raising the user’s blood pressure, heart rate, and body temperature.

These are also the signs of overdosing on this drug. The increase in your body temperature and dehydration is very dangerous. Many people drink alcohol while using ecstasy, which causes dehydration to be more severe and puts more pressure on your nervous system. Drinking alcohol while you use ecstasy is particularly dangerous because you may not be as aware of some of the danger signs as you would be otherwise. Alcohol also dehydrates the body severely.

The following are signs that a person needs to seek medical help:

  • profuse sweating
  • vomiting
  • lack of coordination
  • trouble speaking
  • fainting

If someone stops moving around and their heart rate is not decreasing, they should get help. All of these are signs of an ecstasy overdose.

Many people are under the impression that ecstasy is a safe drug that you cannot become addicted to. Some recent news articles have even talked about ecstasy being safe for adults, as long as it is used properly. One of the biggest problems is that the ecstasy bought and sold on the streets is cut with so many different things. There is just no way to know precisely what you are buying and how it might affect your body. Some people say they are addicted to ecstasy, and there have been deaths caused by ecstasy. The notion that it is a completely safe drug is not a true one. People who advocate responsible ecstasy use refer to pure ecstasy, which is not even close to what you will get if you buy it on the streets (which is the only place you will buy it since it is illegal).

Long Term Side Effects of Ecstasy

Ecstasy can have long-term side effects. Ecstasy use can cause severe problems for people with pre-existing cardiovascular problems because of the quick and intense increase in heart rate and blood pressure. Ecstasy can also cause liver and kidney problems due to the severe dehydration that you may experience while using it. Depression and anxiety are common long-term effects of ecstasy. These symptoms may go away on their own after a while, but they may not. Ecstasy causes permanent changes to the brain and alters the activity of serotonin in your brain. Ecstasy can also cause severe memory loss and brain damage.

It’s important to know all of the potential side effects of ecstasy. Some people may think it is safe, and there is no risk in taking it, but like anything else, there is always a risk. We never know what is in the ecstasy we are buying, and we never know how we will react to it.
