Do You Know The Signs of Alcohol Abuse?

Many people miss the signs of alcohol abuse because they don’t know what to look for. If you think you have an alcohol problem or know someone who might, there is help available! Some people might know that they are abusing alcohol but do not want to acknowledge it because they don’t want to stop drinking or don’t know how to stop drinking alcohol.

There’s no formula to figure out if you or someone you know has a problem with drinking, but there are some tell-tale signs that can help you recognize this problem.

  • Do you often suffer negative consequences due to your drinking?
  • Are you unable to control how much you drink or stop drinking once you start?
  • Do you often neglect work tasks or responsibilities at home due to drinking or obsessing about drinking?
  • Do you often tell yourself you aren’t going to drink, but you do anyway?
  • Do you blackout when you drink?

If you or someone you know has a problem with drinking, these are just some of the questions you might want to ask.

What To Do If You Are Showing Signs of Alcohol Abuse

If you determine that your drinking may be a problem, you might want to think about checking into an alcohol treatment center. Anyone can get sober and stay sober!

There are many alcohol treatment facilities all around the country that you will be able to choose from. When picking out the right alcohol rehab center, there are a few factors that you will need to take into account. If you have insurance, you will have to see which facilities are covered under your insurance and if there is a co-pay or not. If you do not have insurance, the costs of treatment centers can be overwhelming and may exceed your budget.

If this is the case, please do not give up! Keep looking, or keep calling your insurance company and see if there’s any way you can get them to change their decision.

If rehab is not an option, don’t give up! There are twelve-step programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, which are absolutely free. I know many people who have never spent any time in an inpatient drug and alcohol rehab, and they are still able to maintain their sobriety through outpatient groups and AA and NA meetings.

I believe that if you have the option to get help in a rehab, it is a gift that you shouldn’t pass up. Just remember, anyone can get sober and stay sober if they are willing to do so. Don’t let anything or anyone stand in your way.
